Evolution, Intelligent Design, and the Goodness of God

Divinely guided evolution - a good compromise between faith and science that gets Christians off the science hook? No. I’m sorry, but it won’t work.

Intelligent design means believing that God, according to Christian scriptures, created the world intending to delight in humans as parents delight in their children. Starts off good, but then after making a smoking volcanic planet, God stood back and watched the “beloved” crown of His creation develop through pitiless, random natural selection;  eons of agonizing, bloody death by predators or through slow misery by accident, disease, and starvation. Intelligent design is the Roman Coliseum.  It is creating by destroying. It’s insanity.

Since intelligent design does not support the biblical description of a loving God, what do we give up on?  God? A lot have.  Evolution?  How?  All those bones and footprints. Those strange walking fish. Marsupials. Mammals that lay eggs. Humans with Neanderthal DNA.  Looks like pretty strong evidence of evolution. We have to turn to science.

If science has taught us anything, it has demonstrated that reality is very strange, stunningly odd, in fact, and perhaps even mutable.  And we’ve gotten that message. Everyone is talking about parallel universes, multiverses, multi-dimensions operating at the same time or at different times while connected.  Quantum entanglement of “things” light years apart, black holes that allow travel between multiverses, and portals that allow travel between dimensions or states of being. Many people are convinced that we live in a matrix.  To complicate matters, time can be bent or reshaped or even traversed.  We don’t actually know what time is, after all.

Nevertheless, faith and science agree.

The Bible is filled with evidence for travel between places or states of being.  Dimensional portals, or maybe black holes to multiverses that are not parallel.  (Parallel universes are the same events happening to the same people in another universe.)  My money is on dimensional portals.

When God expelled Adam and Eve from the garden, he stationed a cherubim with a flaming sword to keep humans from returning.  Sounds like a portal. More examples? A heavenly ladder on which Jacob saw angels ascending and descending to and from the skies.  Paul and John caught up in other heavens (dimensions).  Jesus ascending and disappearing from sight. Portals. And these are just a few examples of many.

The Bible mentions heavenly realms, which are distinct from the earthly. We also know that God cast Satan out of His heavenly dimension, down to our limitedly perceived earthly dimension. Wanting to be God, but lacking God’s creative power, the evil one could only experiment with the raw material in the fallen dimensions - he's the original Dr. Frankenstein, the father of insane, bloody experimental evolution.  He attempts to create through death and pain. Add to that the angels who followed him down to earth, several times, and married women. Quite a mess in our dimensions.

Be clear:  I am not talking about pure races or groups and degraded races or groups.  I am saying that we are all the descendants of post-fall Adam and Eve and that we are all a mishmash of DNA and heredity in need of the Savior.

Now what?  The portal to the garden is barred, so we can’t go back;  however, Jesus made us a promise.  He will return to make all things new, because “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish."  John 3:16.

Science - the handmaiden of Christianity.
