"Anarchy Masquerading as Compassion:" Political Perversion of Christianity

Sometimes we all need a little help from our friends. Lee Elci's comment this morning summed up a post that I have been rewriting in my head for years. Here goes.

In the nineteenth century, the misery of the working classes and the theory of evolution opened the door to communism. Although atheists, Marx's and Engles' thinking was founded on their 2000 year-old European JudoChristian culture and its values; values that still resonate across the globe. Equality, acceptance of all, fairness, sharing, feeding the poor, binding up the wounds of the stranger and enemy.

But those ideals don't work without Jesus. When Hebrew and Christian principles are divorced from God and politicized, they have no foundation. Set adrift in a world that values practicality, efficiency, and situational ethics, Christian principles are twisted to justify evolving political and social aims. In that context, the definition of values, such as charity and mercy, are in constant flux. Struggling to understand troubling political and social conditions within a framework of continuously mutating ethics, people turn to flawed, inconsistent political systems and self-serving acts of virtue signaling to answer the important questions: What is the point of life? Am I worthy?

As I write, people longing for a sense of virtue and personal meaning are justifying their pursuit of happiness* through violence and anarchy. When interviewed, many directly or indirectly claim that compassion for others - a prime Christian principle - motivates their anarchy on the streets of America. Well, knowingly or not, the violent demonstrators are protecting heinous violent criminals. That's not compassion, it's not promoting justice, and it's not even practical or rational.

Update: I wrote this post on Friday, January 16, 2026 intending to review it today, Monday, January 19, 2026. Over the weekend, dawokefarmer2 provided me a perfect example of my thesis. He either perverted Christian principles for political purposes or is deeply ingnorant about Christianity, the person of Jesus, and the apostles. That's a whole other post.

But dawokefarmer2 clearly enjoyed his virtue signaling, and I can't help but wonder how many underpaid illegal aliens are working for peanuts on the woke farm.

Below are the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens that ICE officers arrested, despite the efforts of rioters and sanctuary politicians to protect them:

Hernan Cortes-Valencia, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico with a final order of removal dated Dec. 1, 2016, who’s been convicted of sexual assault against a child, sexual assault-carnal abuse and four DUIs.

Sriudorn Phaivan, a criminal illegal alien from Laos with a final order of removal from March 8, 2018. He’s been convicted of strongarm sodomy of a boy, strongarm sodomy of a girl, another aggravated sex offense, nine counts of larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle, four counts of fraud, vehicle theft, two counts of drug possession, obstructing justice, possession of stolen property, receiving stolen property, burglary and check forgery. He also has pending charges for two counts of receiving stolen property, flight to avoid prosecution or confinement and burglary.

Kou Lor, a criminal illegal alien from Laos with a final order of removal from Aug. 16, 1996. He’s been convicted of sexual assault, rape, rape with a weapon, statutory rape without force, two counts of burglary and shoplifting.

Abdirashid Mohamed Ahmed, a criminal illegal alien from Somalia with a final order of removal dated Feb. 18, 2022. He’s been convicted of two counts of negligent manslaughter with a vehicle, two counts of DUI, larceny and damage to property.

*The American Founders envisioned a nation of educated, virtuous people grounded in Christian principles. Education and virtue produced happiness, which they "understood . . . as a quest for being good, not feeling good-the pursuit of of lifelong virtue, not short-term pleasure . . the habits of industry, temperance, moderation, and sincerity . . . (because) political self-government required personal self-government . . ." But eventually, the pursuit of happiness was distorted to justify the pursuit of personal goals at all costs.
